I have dandruff.
This is a new problem for me. You all know I’m an oily bitch, and my scalp is no exception. In the last couple of years I’ve tried really hard to wash my hair less in the hopes that it would make my scalp less oily, but no dice. It was annoying having to wash my hair every day or contend with a grease slick on my head, but it wasn’t the end of the world. Then the flakes started.
I don’t know how it happened really. About six months ago I was working and noticed that my scalp was particularly itchy. I wrote it off; the seasons were changing and my skin tweaks a little bit when that happens. It would go away. But it didn’t. I started noticing that it wasn’t just itchy, but big, white flakes were falling out, and parts of it felt scaly, almost like it was peeling.
Needless to say I was totally grossed out. I’m grossed out now just talking about it.
So I started doing lots and lots of research. I bought a new hairbrush. I stopped using lava-hot water. I started trying scalp scrubs, treatment oils and new shampoos and conditioners. I bought a silk pillowcase. I did basically everything the internet and my hairdresser told me to do. Now, I’ll share all of this product knowledge with you, dear readers.
Stay tuned for future episodes of the flake files.
