Here we go again: another anti-haul!
Today we’re looking at Sephora, and there’s a lot to rag on here so let’s get right to it.
Beauty influencers everywhere are weeping that this made someone’s anti-haul, but I really don’t get why it’s so universally loved. It’s supposed to be a “firming” cream, but we all know there’s no such thing; a topical cream isn’t going to rid your ass of cellulite. People also claim to love the scent but for me it’s nearly vomit-inducing, so there’s no way I’m spending a pile of money on this crap.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
I’m hating on a couple things from this brand. First and foremost, the Sultry palette. Sure it’s got some of the cooler tones that are beginning to crop up, but they just couldn’t leave out that one warm shade. That’s the one thing that makes this palette stand out, just by virtue of its contrast. Removing that one shade makes this an all neutral and slightly more up to date version of the Naked 2 palette, and it just seems pointless.
Next, the restock of the Amrezy Highlighter. I don’t get why everyone is falling all over themselves for this one basic, boring gold highlight. I know, I know, the texture and the glow and blah blah blah, but at the end of the day, it’s a gold highlight that was strategically made ‘limited edition’ and then restocked during the holiday season. Demand, meet supply.
Kat Von D Holiday collection
Oh, Kat… you should have kept your mouth shut about how hard it is to be a straight, rich, cis vegan and former reality star in America. If you had, maybe your recently released eye and face palettes for this holiday season wouldn’t already be half price. Though I suppose it’s possible that people are ignoring your bullshit and just didn’t want to buy them since they’re not colors that are currently trending and many, many people found the shade names off-putting at best.
Also, your Current Crush is ugly and impractical, and it seems idiotic to spend $20 on a pot of gold glitter.
Yes, they’re cute, but don’t we all own at least one of these colors already, if not more? I know I do, and I’m not even the biggest fan of this formula. I wish they’d put some limited edition colors here, like the one they released for the royal wedding or one of the international influencer collabs.
I don’t understand why this product is necessary. Once again influencers the world over practically shat themselves over how gorgeous it is, but it’s been done, and Huda hasn’t exactly been consistent as far as product quality. I can’t talk myself into spending $65 on a boring palette.
This is a 4 pan. mostly blue, eyeshadow palette with sponge-tip applicators for $92 USD.
NINETY-TWO FUCKING UNITED STATES DOLLARS.
It’s not even that cute or highly rated, and the packaging isn’t covered in gold and diamonds, so why the fuck does this cost so much? Oh right, because it has Tom Ford’s name on it, and regardless of whether or not it’s actually a quality product he can charge whatever the hell he wants.
No. Just no. I hope no one buys this out of principle.
Another incredibly boring release from our friends at Benefit. I appreciate that they’re trying to shake it up a little and not be so focused on brows and face powders, but this seems like another unnecessary release. The market is flooded with basic, everyday, neutral palettes. Do better Benefit.
Ok, yes, her shit is fucking pretty. I fully admit that I’m lusting after the Mothership V Bronze Seduction palette, despite the hefty price tag, but glitter lipstick just seems so… 1988. I know the 80s and 90s have come back with a vengeance, bringing all the good and terrible things from my childhood screaming into our collective consciousness, but I don’t know if $40 hot pink glitter lipstick is really what we need right now.
Too Faced Holiday Collection
I’m including the entire collection on this list, but in particular the Under the Tree face and eye set, Dream Queen set, the Better Than Sex mascara mini ornaments, basically anything that’s so Christmas themed I wouldn’t want to walk around with it the rest of the year. I’ve also found that the quality for these holiday palettes kind of tanks. I’ve purchased them in the past, and not only are they super basic with very little color, but they don’t live up to typical TF quality. There’s also a Better Than Sex mascara in basically every set, and I really don’t like that mascara and their constant pushing of it makes them seem desperate.
I’m not sure if it’s part of the holiday collection, but I also have zero interest in the Pretty Rich Diamond Light Eyeshadow Palette. Sure it’s pretty and sparkly, but I’m not that into glitter, and it seems like the packaging would be bulky and difficult to store, especially for someone with a fuckton of makeup already. I’m also fairly confident that I have similar shades elsewhere in my collection.
Tarte. What are you doing with this nonsense?
This is legitimately a fucking pineapple, full of boring, basic Tarte shadows and face products. These are the same colors that appear in every holiday release, and with the exception of the weird pineapple packaging, this year’s Ulta exclusive has almost the exact same colors. I can’t even with this.
A fucking pineapple.
I have yet to purchase a Fenty product, and the holiday collection isn’t making me rethink whether or not I need the stuff in my life.
To be fair, the Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Palette is really pretty, as are the Avalanche All-Over Metallic Powders, but I don’t feel like I need any of them. I’d end up using the highlighter palette as eyeshadow until I got tired of being so shiny, then it would go in the back of my palette drawer, and I know myself well enough to know that loose powders of any kind are a terrible idea. I’m just too clumsy/shaky/in a hurry.
Fenty has also released Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil, a silver/white highlighter without a base color, so it looks like the person wearing it has bathed in glitter. Lovely. And since last year’s Fairy Bomb was kind of a mess with that big poufy thing, this year they’ve released Fairy Bomb Shimmer Powder, the powder in three colors without the duster. Progress I guess.
I’m hoping that since we’re coming up on mid-December, there won’t be any more releases. That’s likely wishful thinking.
What do you think of all of this? Will you be purchasing any of it?
