UV brush cleaning

I’ve mentioned this once or twice before, but I really hate cleaning my brushes. There are some chores that I just can’t stand to do, and that’s one of them. I will literally wait until I don’t have a single clean brush left to wash them, and I’ve even been known to just buy new ones to avoid it a little longer. Terrible, I know.

I recently stumbled across this little blurb about a Kickstarter for a product called Brushean.

The idea is that this thing sits on your vanity/makeup table and cleans your brushes with UV-C technology, which sterilizes and kills germs and all that good stuff. It sounds amazing; I stick my brushes in this thing, walk away and when I come back they’re clean. Also, dry. What more could I possibly want? It seems too good to be true.

I have some questions about this: does using UV-C technology remove stains or make my brushes look clean? Will they still feel gross and caked in foundation? If so, are they really clean? I guess I don’t really get how light is supposed to clean my brushes. I know that UV can be used to sterilize medical tools and whatever, but they’re presumably not caked in particulate matter when going into the sterilizer thingy. Am I missing something?

In order to receive one of the first units to ship (supposedly in August instead of December), I’d have to contribute $59 to the Kickstarter. It’s something I’m considering, but it seems like a lot of money to spend on something I’m not sure about. What do you think about this idea? Are you the worst at washing brushes too?
