Review: Garnier Whole Blends Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner Avocado Oil & Shea Butter

Ok brands, we need to talk about the length of your product names. They’re getting ridiculous.

Anyway, I’ve never tried a Garnier hair product that I’ve liked. Back in the day when the Fructis shampoos were all the rage I gave them a shot and regretted it. I’ve also tried hair masks, hair spray, dye… I don’t use a lot of styling products, but I feel like I gave Garnier an honest shot.

Given that, I don’t know why I bought this shampoo and conditioner other than the throwback 70s packaging and the BOGO sale at Walgreens. I don’t even buy drugstore shampoo generally, so what was I thinking?

I can’t answer that question, but I do know that I was surprised when I used this. First and foremost, I love the smell. It smells like you’d expect a rich, nourishing shampoo to smell; sort of like oil and lotion, which makes sense given the ingredients. The conditioner is thick and feels nice and emollient. Not at all what I was expecting.

The biggest shock came once I was out of the shower; combing my hair wasn’t a challenge like it normally is when I use inexpesive hair products. I didn’t end up tearing through knots and breaking my hair either. Lately I’ve been letting my hair air dry, and when I use this shampoo and conditioner it actually doesn’t look too bad. Even without styling products the frizz is kept to a minumum and I don’t feel like it’s too dry or weighed down. At this point that’s really all I can hope for unless I want to heat style, which seems like a total waste of energy while I’m hibernating.

I’m about halfway through the shampoo and overall I’m happy with the purchase, but I don’t know that I’d buy these again unless it was on sale. I’m alternating these with some high end products, just because I get bored when I use the same shampoo every day, so it should last awhile. I’ve managed to keep my hair in relatively good shape so far this winter, and I’d like that to continue.

If you’d like to know what else I’m using in my hair, let me know. I’m thinking about reviewing my hair dryer, since it’s amazing.
