Winter skin care

This post could also aptly be titled “WTF is happening with my skin right now”.

Typically there’s a bit of a freakout when the season changes so I was expecting a little of this, but my face is full scale freaking out. Zits, dryness, the whole nine. In my attempts to keep the freakout at bay, I’ve had to change up my skincare routine a bit.

Morning

I’ve been washing my face in the shower with Face Shop’s Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam and my Clarisonic (neither pictured). The first step in my post-shower routine is my Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner, which I talked about in my last skincare post. I then spot treat with the Tea Tree Oil from The Body Shop. I love this stuff. I know there are cheaper options available, but I’ve been using this one since high school and it’s always been great, so I’m sticking with it.

I’ve been alternating my serums between The Face Shop’s Green Tea Waterfull Serum and Mizon’s Snail Repair Intensive Ampule. To be honest, I’m not sure what either of these things is supposed to do, but my skin feels really good when I use them. After the serum, I use the Balancing Skin Concentrate from YourGoodSkin. I’ve never seen this brand anywhere other than Walgreens, and I’ve never heard anyone online talk about it, but I like it. The packaging is cool and it doesn’t make my skin feel more oily. I’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks and I don’t use it as often as they recommend, but I’ve noticed an improvement. Other than the breakouts, of course.

My last daytime step is my Snail Repair Cream from Mizon. You guys know I love this stuff from my review so I won’t go into it further. I’ve been using it religiously and continue to love it.

Evening

If I’ve been wearing makeup I start with a cleansing oil or balm. Right now I’m working my way through the MEMEBOX I’m Cleansing Oil. I have the oily skin version, and it appears that it’s not currently available. I mentioned this in my last skincare post as well; the stuff has lasted far longer than I expected. After rinsing off the oil I use Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean Deep Cleansing Milk. I haven’t reviewed this formally because I’m on the fence about the peachy mint smell, but I like how the product performs.

When I haven’t been wearing makeup I skip the double cleanse and just use the Tarte Frxxxtion Stick 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser. I got a sample of this a while ago in a subscription box and fell madly in love with it. It’s super easy for traveling and makes my skin feel really good and squeaky clean. I don’t like the price tag, but I have yet to find a similar product that I like as much.

Regardless of what I’ve used to wash my face the rest of the routine is the same. Toner, followed by The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil Blemish Fade Night Lotion. When my face isn’t a mess I might use one of my serums and my Snail Repair Cream, but lately, it’s just the tea tree lotion.

I know this might be a bit of a letdown for the 19th day of Blogmas, but switching up your skincare can be a good idea in the winter. Do you do anything differently? Any suggestions for my current skin situation? I love hearing from you so leave me some comments!
