Review: Cover Girl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation

At last, another real review!

Today I tried the new(ish) foundation from Cover Girl in shade 720 Creamy Natural. I used a primer, the Too Faced Hangover Rx, and followed up with Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless pressed powder in translucent.

Pros: So many! Much to my surprise. The packaging is beautiful and feels high quality, and there’s a pump. Always a plus. Cover Girl claims that this foundation has vitamins and antioxidants so it’s actually good for your skin; I’ve only worn it once so I can’t speak to these claims, but I can say that it feels pretty good on my skin. It doesn’t feel heavy or mask-like and doesn’t look cakey at all, and it has SPF.

I wore it for about nine hours and I looked a little oily in my t-zone, but that’s to be expected for someone with oily skin who spent some time outside. It had rubbed off a bit where my sunglasses were sitting, but there wasn’t any other breakdown. This isn’t a mattifying foundation so I was expecting it to separate around my nose and on my forehead but it didn’t. I even took a nap today and when I woke up my makeup still looked good. Very impressed.

Cons: The smell. When I was applying it I noticed a strong perfume smell, not unpleasant necessarily but just really strong. The smell went away a minute or so after I applied it but it was surprising. It also oxidized a little bit but the shade was a bit light for me so it worked out in my favor. I wore it to lunch with a friend and this transferred a bit when I was using my napkin and touching my face, so that’s not my favorite thing.

Overall I like this foundation. I don’t think I’d be able to use it in the summer when my skin is extra oily, but on a day like today when it’s not too hot or humid it was fine. This might be my new winter foundation.
